Our Story
The story of the Militia House begins like so many other small businesses in America. It begins with someone and their life long passion. In this case with our owner and founder Adam Barnes, and his insatiable love of history. From a very early age Adam possessed a love of history and all its aspects. This love manifested itself through reading, research, and film. Adam especially loved all the small things that went along with the history. The clothing, weapons, equipment, and sundries that made the time-period so much more memorable to him. Over time Adam became interested and involved in the hobby of re-enacting and living history. Adam spent many years reading and researching his impressions, and one area he returned to time and again was his difficulty in acquiring the historically accurate items he needed. After many years of frustration Adam decided the only way he could acquire the items he needed was to create them himself. Thus the Militia House was born.
At the Militia House our primary focus is supplying historical reproductions to individuals both in and outside of living history. We supply items to individuals and to museums. These items range from leather goods, equipment, weapons, and anything in between. Our philosophy is to find a need for a historical item...research that item to the best of our ability, and then reproduce it as historically accurate as possible. Countless hours of reading, translating, photographing, documenting, measuring, and testing go into each of our products. We attempt, to the best of our abbility, to duplicate the item of study to as close to an original as is possible. When you purchase an item from the Militia House you can be assured that whatever the item is it has been painstakinly researched, developed, and constructed to make it the best possible reproduction achievable. In addition we pride ourselves on the fact that 100% of all our items are made right here in America. |
